Velvet Leaf House

Explore the extraordinary world of Alocasias.

A growing collection of species, hybrids and variegated forms, documented through hands-on experience, propagation experiments and honest care guidance.

The Collection

More than a plant collection.

Velvet Leaf House began with a fascination for unusual foliage and grew into a deeply personal exploration of Alocasias.

From botanical species and well-known hybrids to rare variegated forms, this website documents the plants, propagation methods, setbacks and discoveries that come with growing an extensive collection.

The goal is not to present perfect plants or universal rules. It is to share practical observations, honest experiments and useful resources for people who want to understand their Alocasias more deeply.

  1. Variegation

Aurea, Albo and Mint forms, what each one means in the leaf, and why Pink is not its own type.

  2. Propagation

Corms, divisions and offsets, from the first cut to an established plant.

  3. Practical care

Substrates, root health, acclimation and the routines that keep Alocasias growing.

Alocasia Micholitziana Frydek Albo

Species cultivar · Albo-variegated

Velvet-textured leaves with bright white sectors. The white tissue holds no chlorophyll, so light and patience decide how each leaf turns out.

VLH: Your Plant Collection is a free catalogue for houseplant collectors — and this library travels with it.

Record every plant with the details a collector keeps: photographs, where it came from, what it cost, what it stands in and when it was last watered. Track wet sticks, corms and pups as batches. Mark what is for sale or for trade. And open the Alocasia library to see, at a glance, which forms you already grow and which are still missing.

  • Up to five photographs per plant
  • A watering calendar with one morning reminder
  • Propagation batches, stage by stage
  • For sale, for trade, and what it all came to
  • The Alocasia library, marked against your own plants
  • The corm splitting guide, built in

About

Behind Velvet Leaf House

My name is Jacqueline, and what began as an interest in unusual houseplants developed into an extensive collection focused primarily on Alocasias.

I am especially fascinated by variegation, corms, propagation and the way individual plants respond to different growing conditions.

Velvet Leaf House is where I document that experience: the successful growth, the failed experiments, the unexpected mutations and the practical lessons learned along the way.
